The Gospel

There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away.

Romans 3:10-12

There is a God.  He made all things, and all things belong to him.  He is holy and righteous and has holy and righteous standards, or laws, by which he commands us to live.  God’s law can be summed up in two commands:  love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.  This creates a problem for humanity because all have disobeyed God’s laws, which the Bible calls sin.  God has promised that He will judge all of mankind for their sins, and the consequence will be to suffer eternal death in hell.

BUT, because of God’s love for us, He sent his son Jesus to the earth to take the punishment sin deserves on himself.  Even though Jesus lived a perfect life, He was put to death, not because of anything He had done, but because of our sin.  God punished Jesus for every sin you would ever commit in this life: past, present, and future.  He poured out His wrath against your sin onto his son Jesus.  Jesus became our substitute.

Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.

1 Peter 3:18

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.

John 3:36

Jesus didn’t stay dead.  Three days later he rose to life and was seen by many people.  Jesus’ resurrection from the dead is proof that God is satisfied with Jesus as a perfect substitute.  He atoned, or paid, for your sins!  AND, if you ask him to forgive your sins and put your faith in Jesus’ perfect life, death, and resurrection, you will be saved from God’s judgment and receive eternal life.  God will also adopt you as one of His children!  God does not require anything from us to be saved.  You simply need to believe, and God will be gracious to save you.

There is no-one righteous, not even one; there is no-one who understands, no-one who seeks God. All have turned away.
